about scanning the big slab
how far would you go to maintain your privacy?
a split site work that played out in a performance space as well as out on the streets of northbridge [perth’s club district] at night. six acts of privacy breaches were performed each night, ranging from dumpster diving to cataloguing private conversations occurring in public space.
whilst volunteer members of the public reported back to the in-theatre audience via spy cameras set up on the streets, pvi performers are undertaking a series of “reality tv” based endurance games. each time they lose or fail a challenge, an element of their private lives is exposed to the audience. sometimes banal, sometimes excruciatingly personal – the ultimate ‘loser’ has their home invaded by volunteer operatives who are stationed outside their houses during the show.
networked via walkie-talkie and with a key to their front door – their home invasion is relayed back via audio into the performance space each night.
