What is a Social Licence to Operate?

1 May 2024

“”A social licence is a symbol of ongoing approval granted by the community for a company to undertake their activities. Getting a social license to operate means building up social capital by financing things like local sports, social charities, arts and cultural events, and even health care and medical facilities.”

Lo-Fi Presentation, April 2024. Presented by Chief Barker assisted by Sergeant Sniffer.

The Social Licence Watchdogs have a standard procedure for invoices left unpaid for 21 days. Five corporations – BHP, Chevron, Glencore, Inpex and Woodside – currently have social carbon debts due and face the possibility of their social licence to operate being symbolically shredded on 3rd September.
